How the Real Estate Courses Work
Qualification Courses
National License Services will send reading assignments to the student for completion. Read all instructions included with the material. All Broker or Salesperson Qualification courses have 15 mini quizzes, each containing 10 multiple-choice questions. The assignments can be completed on the Internet for instant grading and review. (The mini quizzes are OPTIONAL and are not required to complete the course) The final examination, can be completed on the Internet or the school will mail the open-book final examination to a monitor of the students choice. The final exam is open-book and contains 100 multiple-choice questions. (The course assignments [mini-quizzes] have been included as a practice tool to test your knowledge prior to taking the open-book final exam). The passing-grade for the course is 60% or better on the final examination. If you complete the open-book final examination over the Internet you will receive immediate results. The minimum time to complete the course is 2½ weeks. The maximum time is One year.
Password Protection
All students are issued a Pass-Code, as well as a User Name. These are required to gain access to the final examination. The passcode is used to protect the school from unauthorized use.
When you are ready to take you final exam, a screen will appear and ask for your User Name and Pass-Code.

How to Take the Final Examination
After entering your Pass-code and User Name, the final examination will be loaded onto your screen. Select the answer by clicking on the radio button corresponding to the correct answer. After completing all of the questions, go to the bottom of the test and click on mark and submit. The exam will then be transmitted to the school. Your score will appear at the bottom of the test. The answers will then appear after each question for your review.
What Happens if I Pass?
If you have passed with a score of 60% or higher, a Completion Certificate will be emailed to you within 48 hours and a hard copy will be mailed to you within 5 days.
What Happens if I Fail?
If your final examination score is less than 60%, you have failed. The school will immediately contact you by email and instruct you to retake the final examination. You may retake the final examination three times. If after the third time you have failed to pass the final examination, you must retake the course by paying a fee to the school and re-reading the course material.

Examination Application
Note: Your examination application should only be submitted once or your examination date may be changed and the fee may be charged again. Fees are nonrefundable per Business and Professions Code Section 10207.
An Examination Schedule Notice (RE 401A) listing your examination date, time, and location will be sent to you. If you have not received your notice within the application processing timeframe listed on the DRE Web site, please check to see if an examination has been scheduled for you using the eLicensing online system at www.dre.ca.gov. If you have been scheduled but have not received, lost or misplaced your Examination Schedule Notice (RE 401A), you can request a duplicate using eLicensing.
If you are not qualified at the time you submit your application and fee, you will be notified in writing. You will have two years from the date the DRE received your application to qualify for and pass the examination. If you do not qualify for and pass the examination within the two-year period, the application will expire and you will need to submit a new application, fee and other required documents. Refunds or credits will not be given.
